First wave of acts roll in for Lindisfarne Festival 2023

Lindisfarne Festival is movin’ on up for 2023 as organisers reveal the first headliners for this year’s music and arts weekender on the stunning Northumberland coast.

Cast iron rock gods, Primal Scream will be topping the bill on the Friday night at the much-loved camping festival, which will be once again taking up residence at Beal Farm, overlooking Holy Island from August 31st to September 3rd.

Making the announcement, which is expected to trigger a huge surge in demand for tickets, Lindisfarne Festival founder, Conleth Maenpaa, said he was delighted to have finally been able to book the legendary Scottish rockers.

He said: “Primal Scream are a band we’ve had in our sights for a long time, so it’s a real thrill to be able to unveil them at the top of our Friday night bill for this year’s Festival.

“They’re a perfect fit for Lindisfarne and are renowned all over the world for their live shows. We know it’s going to be unforgettable and can’t wait to see them rocking the main stage.”

Led by unmistakable frontman, Bobbly Gillespie, Primal Scream recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of Screamadelica, the classic and Mercury Music Prize-winning album, which secured the band’s encore setlist thanks to tracks like Movin’ On Up, Loaded and Come Together.

Since their inception in the mid-eighties, the band has thrown themselves into a myriad of musical genres from psychedelic pop through euphoric rave to degenerate rock‘n’roll.

Small but perfectly formed, the independent Lindisfarne Festival has been growing in popularity year on year since its debut in 2015, attracting thousands of festival lovers for a weekend filled with the best of good times – all set to the historic and breath-taking backdrop of Holy Island.

Ten distinct stages play host to some 200+ musicians and performing artists across the three- day event.

Joining Primal Scream on the first roster of names unveiled for the eighth Lindisfarne Festival are an exciting melting pot of top quality acts guaranteed to maintain its reputation as the ultimate end of summer party for grown ups (the event is strictly over 18s only).

Among them are British Dub stars Gentleman’s Dub Club, folk music queen, Kathryn Tickell and the Darkening, The Cuban Brothers, Dutty Moonshine Big Band, Altern-8, The Lancashire Hotpots, The Undercover Hippy and The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican.

This year’s event will also see a Lindisfarne Festival debut for the incredible Bootleg Beatles who are revered the world over for their meticulous recreation of John, Paul, George and Ringo’s iconic discography.

Conleth said: “The Bootleg Beatles are simply the top of the tree when it comes to tribute acts and we can’t wait to hear them bring The Beatles back catalogue to life at Lindisfarne.

“We always want to make sure we’re offering something brilliant for every one of the 7,000-plus people who come to Lindisfarne every year and the bill of acts for 2023 is coming together beautifully.”

Alongside the music, there is always a diverse programme of creative workshops, stand-up comedy, street performance, spoken word, yoga and holistic therapies on offer as well as luxury glamping packages for those not so keen on the camping bit.

Conleth said: “Obviously we start work on the next Festival as soon as the tents come down, but it starts getting really exciting when we can announce the first wave of acts.

“Every year it’s our mission to make the next Lindisfarne better than the one before, and it definitely feels like we’re well on our way.”
