Ex-Prolific North Live expo director, Dunstan Carter has launched his new art website after completing a project illustrating fifteen Manchester Icons.
The idea to illustrate the cultural icons first came to Dunstan after he created three portraits for Manchester digital agency, Modern-English back in 2014. He decided to expand on the three initial portraits and hopes the collection will prove a hit with fans of the biennial Manchester International Festival, which returns again this June, as well as proud Mancunians and music and film enthusiasts.
The Manchester Icons collection includes portraits of music stars such as, Noel Gallagher, Shaun Ryder and Ian Curtis, and a diverse range of actors, poets, directors and comedians, including, Victoria Wood, Caroline Aherne, Steve Coogan and Lemn Sissay.
The new website, Dunstan Doodles, also includes portraits of amongst others, Michael Caine, Eric Cantona, Eleven from Stranger Things, Captain Beefheart and Kate Bush, as well as original collages, cartoons and portfolio work.
Dunstan’s unique approach to portraiture is bold and stylish and involves illustrating onto coloured card, incorporating elements of collage and a cut and paste technique that have led some social media followers to think they’re paintings – but there’s no paint involved, just pens, pencils, scissors, glue and a desire to create something a bit different.
As well as selling prints on his site, Dunstan hopes to land some new corporate commissions to add to his busy schedule since going freelance.
“I’m looking to work with businesses and brands across the UK, creating unique, bespoke art for office walls, publications, packaging, websites, bars, restaurants, and much more. I’ve been doing a lot of portrait work over the past few years but I’m eager to take on all kinds of different illustration projects and assignments”
