Immersive cinema specialists, Backyard Cinema are set to make their highly anticipated return to Manchester this summer, bringing an incredible lineup of themed, immersive movie screenings to the roof of Depot Mayfield opening on 5th July 2023. Preparations are underway to transform the rooftop into the one and only Miami beach, with over 30 tonnes of sand, guaranteed sunshine and their signature palm tree cocktails.
Backyard Cinema, which began – as its name suggests – in founder Dominic Davies’ own backyard, has already enjoyed huge success and garnered a fan following in London as well as in Manchester last winter. Following much anticipation, they are bringing the unique concept back with a bang with a spectacular summer cinema experience.
Miami Beach will whisk ticket holders away to the sunshine state to be warmly welcomed by the staff at the art-deco Miami Beach Hotel. Guests can enjoy signature palm tree cocktails from the Flamingo Beach Bar, before relaxing under the Miami Beach sunset, feeling the sand between their toes while they watch their favourite films.
Backyard Cinema: Miami Beach will cater to a variety of film tastes, with a combination of summer blockbusters, sing-along musicals, family favourites and cult classics, as well as new releases making up the programming.
Films showing this summer will include the highly anticipated 2023 releases, Barbie and Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny, as well as Dirty Dancing, Grease, Back to the Future, The Little Mermaid (Remake), Top Gun Maverick, Mean Girls and Pulp Fiction and many more.
Miami Beach will also be hosting recurring Dirty Dancing Beach Parties every Friday night, at which guests will have the “Time of their lives’ dancing along to the film’s famous soundtrack, along with special surprises designed to further immerse them in the world of the film.
In addition to this will be Super Sing-along’s – what’s one of those you ask? It’s a screening where audience participation is not only allowed but actively encouraged. Guests will be able to let loose and sing their hearts out inhibition-free to these feel-good film soundtracks, featuring Grease, Mamma Mia and The Greatest Showman.
All of the aforementioned will be taking place at Broadwick’s Depot Mayfield, Manchester’s iconic former railway dating back to 1910. Work has now begun to convert the original railway tracks, platforms, ticket office, waiting room and cast iron roof structure that are currently in place into an escapist haven in time for the summer.
Dominic Davies, Founder and Creative Director said “After the huge success of our Winter season we are super excited to bring our smash-hit Miami Beach to the roof of Depot Mayfield. We are going to take people back to a retro 80s Miami full of glitz and glamor and create the closest thing to a Summer Holiday in Mayfield.”
